The original Safety Turtle that was designed by GPDI performs as a “last layer of protection” for young children near water. Terrapin founder Bob Lyons recognized the need for another product geared directly towards recreational sailors, patients undergoing water physiotherapy rehabilitation, and workers employed around water hazards. The unique constraint placed on this product is protection from splash with instant triggering due to submersion.

When our long-time client Bill Thompson launched his new company, Wi3 Inc. in 2008, he came to us for the ID and mechanical development of WiPNET. A game-changing digital networking product that delivers both Ethernet and CATV over existing coax cables, WiPNET will revolutionize media delivery in home and commercial environments. Scott Gales led this project for us – and well deserves the rave reviews for this technically complex yet visually elegant design.

GPDI teamed up with Ottawa’s Ecosol Solar Technologies to develop the first wall charger with its own battery. The PowerTrip is a high-powered, fast charging and eco-friendly portable charger with solar charging capabilities. The PowerTrip is a great companion to devices like cellphones, PDAs, and iPods. This was a fast turnaround project, with incredibly high results, that established a solid new, Ottawa based, development relationship.

A fortuitous introduction from a colleague has led to a new client for us, and a home run first time at bat. PowerTrip, an eco-friendly portable charger for PDAs, iPods, etc., by Ottawa’s Ecosol Solar Technologies, has won a CES 2011 Innovations Award. Kudos for our Colin Roberts’ industrial design work!
